The Community Access Programs Unit at the New York Legal Assistance Group focuses on community outreach, primarily through the Mobile Legal Help Center. This project operates a mobile legal services office that travels to underserved communities across New York City and Long Island to provide free civil legal services. Interns support this mission by assisting across various programs, including housing, employment, and immigration law, as well as the Legal Hand East Harlem Call-In Center.
What you'll do#
- Conduct client intakes to help assess legal needs.
- Observe and participate in client calls, meetings, and advocacy calls.
- Maintain and organize client files.
- Perform legal research and writing tasks.
- Assist with drafting documents and shadowing staff during court appearances.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current law student.
- Ability to conduct legal research and writing.
- Comfort and willingness to work throughout all five boroughs of New York City.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, New York.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Modality: Hybrid. Staff are generally expected to work in offices or perform in-person work at least two days per week.
- Status: This is a paid, full-time internship.
