About the role#
As a Student-at-Law, you will support personal injury and employment claims through all stages of litigation. You will work directly with Associate Lawyers to manage files and ensure a high level of service for every client. This position is based in Alberta and requires full-time, on-site attendance.
What you'll do#
- Provide client care through phone, email, and in-person communication.
- Assist Associate Lawyers with Questionings and prepare for private mediations and alternative dispute resolutions.
- Draft litigation-related legal documents and conduct necessary legal research.
- Monitor and manage filing and service limitation deadlines.
- Stay informed on the Rules of Court and relevant legal updates.
- Quantify personal injury and employment claims by reviewing evidence and drafting settlement proposals or demand letters.
- Conduct liability investigations and attend court for chambers applications as needed.
- Complete all Law Society requirements and CPLED courses.
What you'll need#
- A J.D. or LL.B. degree from a Canadian University or an equivalent program approved by the National Committee on Accreditation.
- A valid driver license and access to a vehicle for transportation.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in your work.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and professional growth.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and empathy.
