    About the role#

    The Integrated Modeling and Economic Analysis team is seeking an intern to support the Minerals to Materials Supply Chain Facility (METALLIC) project. This role focuses on the development of conceptual process designs and the economic and sustainability analyses of conversion technologies for critical materials. The work directly contributes to national security efforts regarding the production of domestic critical materials.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop conceptual process designs and perform economic and sustainability analyses.
    • Collect supply chain data and incorporate insights into the analysis of critical minerals and manufacturing locations.
    • Support project activities for the Minerals to Materials Supply Chain Facility (METALLIC).
    • Utilize life cycle assessment (LCA) knowledge to access and retrieve data from LCI databases.
    • Apply process and design engineering, scale-up, costing, and Technoeconomic Analysis (TEA) methodologies.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or graduation within the past 12 months.
    • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
    • Proficiency in Python coding.
    • Knowledge and application of process simulation software, such as Aspen Plus or PrOMMiS.
    • Ability to meet all educational requirements prior to the start date.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid internship.
    • The role is based in Golden, Colorado, with remote work options available and the intent to be on campus during the summer.
    • Employment is subject to Department of Energy access restrictions, which include a favorable background investigation and the ability to obtain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card.
    • A pre-employment drug test is required.
