The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is seeking two student interns to support research and educational activities within the Strategic Energy Analysis Center. This role focuses on carbon management, bio-based products, industrial energy systems, and large energy-load systems. Interns will collaborate with researchers to bridge foundational science with practical applications, contributing to projects that analyze energy policies, technologies, and infrastructure.
What you'll do#
- Conduct literature reviews and collect technical, economic, and environmental data.
- Perform spreadsheet-based analysis and support technical documentation.
- Summarize and present findings for researchers and project partners.
- Develop student-facing technical materials, case studies, figures, and research summaries.
- Adapt technical information for community-college audiences and support workforce-development activities.
- Compare and evaluate technology pathways using performance metrics.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited associate or bachelor’s degree program in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Sociology, or a related field.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
- Experience conducting literature reviews or organizing technical information.
- Interest in energy systems, sustainability, applied research, or technical education.
Location & details#
- This position is fully remote, with regular virtual mentoring and team meetings.
- The role is part-time (20 hours per week).
- This is a paid, fixed-term internship.
- Employment is subject to Department of Energy access restrictions, including a federal background investigation and the ability to obtain a Personal Identity Verification card.
