About the role#
Hermeus is looking for students to join our Mechanical Team in Los Angeles. You will help design and integrate systems for supersonic aircraft, including fuel, hydraulics, propulsion, and avionics. This role involves taking ownership of hardware from the initial concept through to final testing.
What you'll do#
- Create structural designs to support vehicle subsystems.
- Run structural and thermal analyses using hand calculations and FEA.
- Lead trade studies focused on mass efficiency, cost, and performance across mechanical and fluid systems.
- Work with manufacturing, supply chain, and test teams to ensure designs are practical and producible.
- Manage hardware development through design, fabrication, integration, and test phases.
- Present technical work in internal reviews and represent the team during design meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, Master's, or Ph.D. program.
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Thermal Fluids, Structural, or a similar engineering field.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- A strong grasp of engineering first principles.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for aviation and our mission.
- You must be a U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.62 to meet U.S. export control requirements.
Location & details#
- Location: Los Angeles, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Terms: Winter 2027 (January to April) or Summer 2027 (May to August).
- Compensation: Paid position with an hourly rate of 25 to 33 USD, depending on degree level.
