About the role#
The Analytical Sciences Group at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is seeking an undergraduate intern to support compositional analysis for biomass-derived samples. This role involves working within a team to analyze materials produced from experiments in biofuels and biomaterials, including fermentation, catalysis, and polymer deconstruction. This is a year-round, on-site internship based in Golden, Colorado.
What you'll do#
- Assist senior team members with sample preparation for instrumental analysis.
- Perform analyses using techniques such as liquid chromatography, near-infrared spectroscopy, and elemental analysis.
- Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments.
- Keep accurate, detailed laboratory records with a focus on data traceability.
- Document and report analytical data to the research team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time student in a chemistry, biochemistry, physics, biomedical sciences, or biomedical engineering degree program, or graduation within the past 12 months.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
- Previous experience in instrumental analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and clear record-keeping skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
