About the role#
The Materials and Chemistry Institute (MaCI) offers practical research experience for graduate students and recent bachelor or master graduates. You will join the Materials Science Division to conduct research in areas such as organic and inorganic synthesis, analytical chemistry, computational materials science, actinide materials, and metallurgy. This is a full-time, paid summer internship for 2027.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with scientists on projects involving laboratory work, computation, or data analysis.
- Conduct research in your assigned area under limited direction.
- Perform technical assignments and provide advanced support to scientific research and development projects.
- Present your work through presentations or poster sessions.
- Handle other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a continuing college student in good standing or recent completion of a bachelor or master degree in chemistry, materials sciences, computational chemistry, or a related field.
- Demonstrated academic achievement with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Experience applying basic scientific principles to solve technical problems.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to present concepts.
- Proficiency with personal computers, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A broad knowledge of chemistry and materials.
- Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the NDAA.

- Term: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $23.26 - $31.62 per hour, based on a step structure determined by your most recent completed academic year.
