About the role#
The Materials and Chemistry Institute offers summer internships for graduate students and recent bachelor or master degree graduates. You will conduct research in fields including organic and inorganic synthesis, computational chemistry, materials characterization, actinide materials, and metallurgy. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Livermore, California.
What you'll do#
- Work with scientists on laboratory projects, computation, or data analysis.
- Conduct research in your assigned area under limited direction and supervision.
- Perform technical assignments of basic complexity and provide advanced support to scientists on research projects.
- Present your work through presentations or poster sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program or a recent bachelor or master degree in chemistry, materials sciences, computational chemistry, or a related field.
- Demonstrated academic achievement with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Broad knowledge of chemistry and materials.
- Experience applying basic scientific principles to solve technical problems.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to present ideas clearly.
- Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act.

- Compensation: $6,752 to $8,201 per month, based on a step structure determined by your most recent completed academic year.
