About the role#
The Integrated Modeling and Economic Analysis Group is seeking a graduate intern to support the Fuels and Industry Integrated Optimization (FINITO) model. This role focuses on evaluating energy system evolution, industrial fuel supply, and the associated economic and environmental implications. You will work alongside senior researchers to analyze complex datasets and contribute to research on energy policy, technology improvements, and manufacturing competitiveness.
What you'll do#
- Assist in research that generates independent, high quality, and reproducible results.
- Research, acquire, and analyze complex datasets requiring substantial pre-processing and harmonization.
- Develop new data architectures to describe infrastructure systems.
- Execute research scenarios and visualize, analyze, and interpret results.
- Edit processing scripts and coordinate data workflows.
- Contribute to technical reports, journal articles, and presentations for both technical and policy-oriented audiences.
What you'll need#
- Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
- Demonstrated experience in code-based data management and analysis using Python.
- Experience developing and applying optimization models.
- Working knowledge of industrial energy and fuels literature.
- Exceptional teaming and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with GAMS.
- Enrollment in or recent completion of a relevant graduate degree program (Environmental Engineering, Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Chemical Engineering).
Location & details#
- Location: Golden, Colorado (with remote and on-site work options).
- Terms: This is a full-time, paid, year-round internship with a rolling start date.
- Requirements: Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card and meet Department of Energy access restrictions. Employment is conditional upon passing a pre-employment drug test.
