About the role#
The Separations Science and Engineering group is hiring a year-round, full-time intern to work on-site in Golden, Colorado. This role focuses on scaling separation technologies for bio-derived products and critical minerals. You will support research efforts by conducting laboratory experiments and developing custom equipment to improve process efficiency and viability.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to laboratory-based separation experiments.
- Assist with benchtop wet chemistry and sample preparation.
- Perform chemical and protein purification.
- Conduct multi-scale chromatography and electrochemical separations.
- Assemble and modify separation systems.
- Support the automation of custom systems using programming languages like Python or Rust.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program or completion of a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Demonstrated laboratory experience and exposure to analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, or biochemistry.
- Proven ability to follow standard lab safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and with diverse teams.
- Majors considered include Chemical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Data Science, and Computer Science.

- Location: Golden, Colorado.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Duration: Rolling term.
- Compensation: $39,600 - $63,400 annually.
- Note: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain federal site access and pass a pre-employment drug test, including for marijuana.
