About the role#
Reporting to a manager within Reinsurance Accounting, the Co-op Student will support the North American Reinsurance Accounting Operations team. This role provides exposure to reinsurance accounting processes, quarterly close support, client data review, and reporting activities. You will work under the guidance of experienced team members on tasks with limited scope and appropriate supervision.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the review and organization of client data and accounting support files.
- Support basic reconciliations and follow up on simple variances under supervision.
- Help prepare working papers used in the quarterly close process.
- Assist with maintaining accurate records for premiums, commissions, claims, and other reinsurance-related balances.
- Assist with preparing routine reports and supporting schedules for internal review.
- Support the tracking of outstanding items, open queries, and follow-up actions.
- Assist with updating process documentation, checklists, and desktop procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a university or college program in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, or a related field.
- Interest in accounting, financial reporting, insurance, or reinsurance operations.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Comfort working with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage assigned tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
