Munich Re is operating under a hybrid working model, including an average of 2-3 days in office/week with the remaining days working from home. Students are expected to relocate to the city in which they work for the duration of their co-op, so they can fully benefit from the full program integration. This provides a great opportunity to network, develop soft skills and become immersed within the greater Munich Re culture; including engaging with your team while in-office for face-to-face meetings, sharing meaningful moments, and allocating time to connect with your Manager. Position Overview Reporting to a Manager within Reinsurance Accounting, the Co-op Student will support the North American Reinsurance Accounting Operations team with basic accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and process documentation activities. This role is intended as a learning opportunity for a student pursuing studies in accounting, finance, business, commerce, or a related field. The student will work under the guidance of experienced team members and will be assigned tasks with limited scope and appropriate supervision. The role provides exposure to reinsurance accounting processes, quarterly close support, client data review, reporting support, and process improvement activities, with a focus on accuracy, organization, and timely completion. Job Responsibilities Reinsurance accounting support: Assist with the review and organization of client data and accounting support files. Support basic reconciliations and follow up on simple variances under supervision. Help prepare working papers used in the quarterly close process. Support the tracking of outstanding items, open queries, and follow-up actions. Assist with maintaining accurate records for premiums, commissions, claims, or other reinsurance-related balances. Reporting and analysis support: Assist with preparing routine reports and supporting schedules for internal review. Help organize documentation used for management reporting and internal discussions. Process documentation and administrative support: Assist with updating process documentation, checklists, and desktop procedures. Support process improvement activities, where appropriate. Qualifications We’re looking for well-rounded individuals who are technically astute, have strong communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to build positive relationships with teams and internal clients. We’re seeking energetic and collaborative professionals who are excited to join our winning team and show promise of becoming a future leader in the reinsurance accounting space. Specifically, we’re looking for the following qualifications: Currently enrolled in a university or college program in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, or a related field. Interest in accounting, financial reporting, insurance, or reinsurance operations. Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Comfortable working with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage assigned tasks and deadlines. Good communication skills and ability to ask questions when clarification is needed. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Compensation for this position ranges from $850 to $1,100 per week. This range represents the typical compensation for candidates hired into this role.
