About the role#
As a Data Science Intern at Munich Re, you will join the HSB Data Science team in Hartford. You will work on large-scale machine learning projects that support our insurance, engineering, and technology business areas. This internship offers hands-on experience, networking with senior leadership, and opportunities to participate in community outreach. You will also receive career guidance to help prepare for your future job search.
What you'll do#
- Use large data sets to identify opportunities for product and process optimization.
- Collaborate with the data science team on machine learning projects.
- Build professional relationships with leaders and colleagues across the organization.
- Engage in community outreach activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an MS or PhD program in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Exceptional undergraduate students will also be considered.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or SQL.
- Ability to write well-documented, production-level code.
- Practical experience with statistical methods and problem-solving.
- Basic software engineering knowledge, including Git, APIs, Docker containers, and DevOps best practices.
- Experience with Spark, distributed computing, Azure cloud development, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or generative AI models is a plus.
