    About the role#

    As an Actuarial Co-op, you will work alongside experienced professionals to gain exposure to the reinsurance industry. This four-month placement is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice. You will contribute to meaningful projects, receive mentorship, and work with teams across Canada and the United States. Placement within specific departments, such as Biometric Research, Pricing, or Corporate Actuarial, is determined closer to the start date based on business needs and your specific skill set.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop mortality, morbidity, and lapse assumptions.
    • Conduct and review company and industry experience studies.
    • Analyze large datasets to develop actuarial insights.
    • Support Pricing and Valuation teams with quotes and analysis.
    • Evaluate and communicate profitability for pricing reports and reinsurance proposals.
    • Use AXIS to model client requests and provide recommendations.
    • Present analysis and strategy results to project leads.
    • Perform pricing analyses and modelling for new business and renewals.
    • Assist with the calculation and reporting of financial results, including quarter-end reporting.
    • Build models for new business treaties.
    • Create new tools to uncover key insights and support global actuarial consulting projects.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Risk Management, or an equivalent program.
    • Strong academic standing.
    • Successful completion of at least one actuarial exam.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage professional relationships.
    • Proven ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.
    • Strong organizational skills with rigorous attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word.
    • Exposure to AXIS is considered an asset.
    • Preference for candidates with relevant work experience.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Toronto, Ontario.
    • Term: Winter 2027 (4 months).
    • Modality: Hybrid (minimum of 3 days per week in the office).
    • Compensation: $950 to $1,450 per week.
    • Status: Paid, full-time position.
