About the role#
MSD is seeking a Ph.D. candidate for a 6-month co-op within the Chemical Biology group. This role focuses on spatial biology and proteomics to support drug discovery. You will work within our laboratories to address biological problems and gain experience in pharmaceutical research. You will participate in team meetings to understand the drug discovery process.
What you'll do#
- Process and section formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue.
- Perform multiplexed immunofluorescence or immunohistochemistry staining on FFPE sections.
- Operate laser microdissection systems to isolate specific cells or regions from slides.
- Use mass spectrometry-based proteomics for tissue profiling.
- Collaborate with the team to optimize workflows.
- Attend lab meetings and present your findings.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field.
- Completed at least two years of your doctoral studies.
- Strong experience in FFPE tissue sectioning and mounting.
- Basic knowledge of fluorescence imaging and analysis.
- Consent from your Principal Investigator to participate.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Preferred skills include proficiency in R or Python, machine learning-based image analysis, and hands-on experience with laser capture microdissection.
- Familiarity with proteomics sample preparation and a record of publications or conference presentations are also preferred.

- This position is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- The role is full-time and on-site.
- The program duration is approximately 6 months, beginning in early to mid-2027.
- This is a paid position.
