About the role#
As an Engineering/Development Intern at the Optical Sensing Products division of MKS Inc., you will support the development of new technologies. You will report to a supervisor within the Mechanical Engineering group for a 4-month term. This position is full-time and on-site.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the mechanical design of precision temperature and position sensing products, as well as manufacturing and test hardware.
- Design, implement, and analyze experiments to evaluate the characteristics of sensing technology.
- Execute Engineering Change Orders for modifications to products, processes, or equipment.
- Set up and calibrate optical and thermal characterization equipment.
- Create and maintain test documentation such as plans, procedures, and reports.
- Use statistical analysis software to analyze data and draw conclusions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a focus on systematic data interpretation.
- Attention to detail and commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD, ideally Solidworks, and basic mechanical design principles.
- Comfort working with hardware, lab equipment, and hands-on troubleshooting.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, LabView, or MATLAB.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.

- Location: Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
