About the role#
As an Operations Planning Engineer Co-op, you will gain experience in how a large electric grid is planned and operated. You will work with teams responsible for maintaining system reliability and supporting energy markets. This role involves applying engineering concepts to real-world grid challenges and collaborating across departments to ensure electricity flows to millions of customers.
What you'll do#
- Support outage planning processes for the electric system.
- Analyze future grid conditions.
- Determine safe and reliable paths for maintenance, construction, and other system changes.
- Run power flow studies and review system models.
- Evaluate the impacts of planned transmission outages on the grid.
- Analyze contingencies and identify reliability concerns.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams.
- Present a capstone summary on your project contributions to grid management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior undergraduate student.
- Pursuit of a degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Completion of core Electrical Engineering coursework.
- Preferred: Coursework in Power Systems Analysis.
- Preferred: Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or C++.
- Preferred: Hands-on projects or internships related to grid modeling or system studies.
