About the role#
As a Load and Weather Risk Analyst Intern, you will join the Operations Risk Management team. You will help forecast energy load and quantify risks that guide decisions for managing the transmission grid. Your work supports efficient generation dispatch, energy supply, and price stability across the region. This role sits at the intersection of weather science, power systems, and financial risk.
What you'll do#
- Develop or enhance load probability forecasting models.
- Identify and build models to assess renewable generation risk, including ramp periods, using historical and real-time data.
- Automate and modernize legacy forecasting tools and scripts.
- Forecast load and communicate grid operational risks to support decision-making.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis.
- Coursework or experience in atmospheric science, physics, economics, or business is preferred.
- Familiarity with interpreting weather models and knowledge of renewable and thermal generation, transmission grids, and energy distribution is preferred.
- Prior meteorological internship experience is a plus.
