About the role#
As an AI Software Engineering Intern, you will work on real-world projects alongside teams across the globe. You will design, develop, and test software solutions that incorporate AI and machine learning technologies. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to define feature requirements and applying engineering principles to solve complex problems.
What you'll do#
- Solve complex problems by applying engineering principles and AI techniques.
- Define user requirements for features by working with stakeholders.
- Apply Microsoft responsible AI practices to your work.
- Learn and adopt new engineering methods and emerging AI or machine learning techniques.
- Seek feedback and use industry best practices to improve your technical solutions.
- Manage your time effectively to complete software projects within a cooperative team.
- Review current developments and seek new knowledge to improve product performance.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a full-time bachelor or master program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field during the term before the internship.
- At least one semester or term remaining after the internship concludes.
- One year of programming experience in an object-oriented language.
- Ability to provide an official or unofficial academic transcript.
- Understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and AI or machine learning concepts.
- Experience with AI or ML projects.
- Familiarity with frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
- Experience using AI tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude code, or Microsoft Roo Code.

- Compensation: The base pay range is $5,610 to $11,010 per month, with a range of $7,270 to $12,030 per month for the San Francisco Bay area.
