About the role#
As a Data Science PhD Intern, you will use machine learning, statistics, and experimentation to build and improve products. You will combine engineering skills with analytical techniques to provide insights into business and customer scenarios. You will work on real projects that influence products and services used by millions of customers.
What you'll do#
- Formulate approaches to solve problems using defined algorithms and data sources.
- Incorporate product functionality and customer perspectives into your analysis.
- Explore data to discover new opportunities and define the limitations of your findings.
- Interpret analysis results, validate your approaches, and iterate to improve outcomes.
- Present actionable insights to stakeholders to influence product improvements.
- Participate in peer reviews and learn new methods and tools to increase the impact of your work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field.
- At least one additional quarter or semester of school remaining after the internship ends.
- Enrollment in a full-time academic program during the term immediately before the internship.
- Experience or coursework with large data systems such as SQL or Hadoop.
- Proficiency in a programming or scripting language like Python, Perl, or C#.
- Experience or coursework in data analysis and statistics using tools like Excel, R, MATLAB, AMPL, or SAS.
- Familiarity with product and service telemetry systems.
- Experience with A/B testing or hypothesis testing.
- Experience or coursework applying basic machine learning to data.
