About the role#
The Long Island Rail Road Office of Emergency Management supports the safety and resilience of the railroad system. You will assist the team in developing emergency response plans, coordinating with external agencies, and conducting specialized training. This is an on-site internship for Winter 2027.
What you'll do#
- Provide daily administrative support, including scheduling meetings and preparing presentations.
- Support emergency coordination calls and department projects.
- Help ensure compliance with OSHA Title 29 CFR Part 1910 Subpart E.
- Research funding opportunities, review grant eligibility, and maintain a database of active grants.
- Prepare draft grant summaries, collect documentation, and organize submission materials.
- Manage training logistics, including scheduling sessions and tracking attendance.
- Maintain records of project timelines, event budgets, and participation metrics.
- Organize repositories for plans, contact lists, SOPs, and resource inventories.
- Deliver a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation at the end of the term detailing your accomplishments and career application.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program with at least a 2.5 GPA or a graduate program with at least a 2.8 GPA.
- Majors in Political Science or related fields.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Capability to handle pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
- A keen eye for detail.
