About the role#
The Oakes Museum at Messiah University is looking for a Teaching Docent. This role supports the museum by leading tours and assisting with educational programming. You will work on-site in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, throughout the Fall 2026, Winter 2027, and Spring 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Lead tours and programs as assigned.
- Assist with field trips, homeschool programs, and Saturday programming.
- Complete a variety of museum tasks as needed.
- Maintain consistent attendance and arrive on time for all work assignments.
What you'll need#
- Experience working with children of various ages.
- Ability to learn a large amount of information and share it with groups of visitors.
- A friendly personality and a flexible approach to your work.
- Majors in History, Communications, Anthropology, Biology, or Sociology are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Mechanicsburg, PA.
- Pay: $8.00 per hour.
- Work schedule: This is an on-site, part-time position that may require Saturday work.
- Dress code: You will wear an Oakes Museum t-shirt with business casual pants, excluding jeans. Standard campus attire is acceptable when working in the office.
