About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to build the analytical foundation for how Meijer identifies retail crime and fraud risk. You will work within the Asset Protection team to consolidate signals from various technologies into a single risk lens. This role involves profiling and joining data across platforms to help the company detect risk before loss occurs.
What you'll do#
- Define credible early risk indicators in collaboration with investigators.
- Build a working prototype that surfaces stores, markets, or offenders showing converging signals.
- Validate analytical findings against closed cases.
- Develop a measurement framework to calculate the value of prevented loss.
- Gain exposure to organized retail crime investigations, data privacy considerations, and law enforcement partnerships.
What you'll need#
- Progress toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in data science, statistics, information systems, industrial engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with Python, R, or SQL through coursework or projects.
- Experience with visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Familiarity with anomaly detection, pattern recognition, or machine learning concepts.
- Ability to translate analytical findings for non-technical leadership.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and customer-focused skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and a drive for results.
