About the role#
This internship provides direct exposure to the engineering and operational needs of a paper production facility in Munising, Michigan. You will spend over 10 weeks supporting projects related to paper production equipment, steam and power systems, automation, and industrial safety. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the Engineering and Operations teams on process efficiency, cost savings, and technology improvements.
- Manage your own work plan using the PDCA cycle.
- Determine functional requirements for equipment, tasks, or safety exposures.
- Create conceptual solutions and share them with your team.
- Convert existing mechanical drawings into electronic CAD files.
- Produce component drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams, schematics, and flow charts.
- Build bills of materials and estimate project costs.
- Gather quotes or estimate labor hours for project budgets.
- Provide regular updates to the team to gather feedback on your designs.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering degree program.
- Completion of at least one full year of coursework (two years is preferred).
- A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred.
- Solid skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Ability to analyze information, synthesize findings, and communicate clearly.
- Ability to work well within a team.
