About the role#
The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeking graduate students and recent graduates for a research internship during the Winter 2027 term. You will engage in practical research across fields such as organic and inorganic synthesis, computational chemistry, materials characterization, and metallurgy. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Livermore, California.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research in your assigned area with limited direction and supervision.
- Perform technical assignments of basic complexity.
- Provide advanced technical support to scientists on research and development projects.
- Work on hands-on laboratory tasks, computation, or data analysis.
- Present your findings through presentations or poster sessions.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Status as a continuing graduate student or a recent graduate with a bachelor's or master's degree in chemistry, materials sciences, computational chemistry, or a related field.
- Demonstrated academic achievement in your field.
- Experience applying basic scientific principles to solve technical problems.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to present ideas clearly.
- Experience with personal computers, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Location: Livermore, California.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $6,752 to $8,201 monthly, depending on your completed academic year.
- Eligibility: You must be eligible to access the laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act. Selected candidates must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
