About the role#
This internship supports the production of high-reliability electronic hardware for tactical satellite equipment. You will work on-site in Rochester, New York, focusing on tasks like surface mount technology solder assembly, mechanical integration, and environmental testing. The position follows a 9/80 schedule, meaning you work 80 hours over nine days and have every other Friday off.
What you'll do#
- Create work instructions, assembly routings, and process procedures.
- Support senior engineers with new product introductions and root-cause investigations.
- Qualify new tools and equipment while implementing engineering changes.
- Maintain labor standards, process controls, and reporting systems.
- Work with Integrated Product Teams to move products from engineering to production.
- Estimate manufacturing costs and determine time standards.
- Perform economic analyses to identify variances in labor and cycle times.
- Attend daily shift huddles and track product line performance indicators.
- Oversee non-conformance reviews and implement corrective actions.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or industrial engineering.
- Experience with soldering or basic electronic manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Creo.
- A basic understanding of 3D printing.
- Experience with statistical software like Minitab or JMP.
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt certification is preferred.
