    About the role#

    This internship provides hands-on experience within our Building Automation Systems organization. You will work alongside experienced engineers and field teams to support the design, programming, commissioning, and operation of building control systems. You will apply classroom theory to real-world projects that help create smarter, healthier, and more sustainable buildings.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with the design and configuration of building automation and HVAC control systems.
    • Support the development of system flow diagrams, sequences of operation, network layouts, electrical schematics, and bills of material.
    • Assist with programming, testing, and troubleshooting building automation software.
    • Coordinate project documentation, drawings, and equipment schedules for customer submittals.
    • Participate in controller loading, system startup, and commissioning activities.
    • Validate system functionality and identify solutions to technical issues alongside field teams.
    • Support the integration of building systems including HVAC, lighting, fire, and security.
    • Document field changes and support the development of as-built drawings and software updates.
    • Participate in project meetings and collaborate with engineers, technicians, subcontractors, and customers.
    • Observe and assist with customer training sessions.
    • Follow safety standards and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Travel to customer sites as needed to support project activities.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, HVAC, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated interest in HVAC systems, building automation, controls, or the construction industry.
    • Basic understanding of engineering principles and technical problem-solving.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to multiple audiences.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
    • U.S. citizen or legal authorization to work in the United States.
    • Coursework or exposure to HVAC systems, controls, automation, or electrical systems is preferred.
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD, drafting software, or engineering design tools is a plus.
    • Exposure to building automation systems, control theory, or networking concepts is helpful.
    • Knowledge of industry communication protocols such as BACnet is beneficial.
    • Demonstrated leadership through academic, extracurricular, volunteer, or work experiences.

    • Location: Amherst, New York, United States.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: On-site and Hybrid options available.
    • Employment: Full-time.
    • Compensation: $22.00 - $25.50 per hour, based on education, experience, and skills.
