About the role#
This is a part-time student position within the John Deere JDTIC Spray Lab. You will work in a team environment to support product engineering projects. This role requires year-round participation, working alongside your academic schedule. Project work may include locations in both Ames and Ankeny, Iowa.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate and communicate effectively within a team.
- Propose or evaluate solutions to improve cost, quality, and performance.
- Test design concepts in lab settings or field environments using prototype equipment.
- Use your technical knowledge to identify and fix design weaknesses.
- Validate offboard data to ensure quality.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student at Iowa State University pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Agricultural Engineering.
- A graduation date of May 2028 or later.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Ability to work 10-20 hours per week during the school year and 30-40 hours per week during the summer.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Experience or knowledge in production agriculture, specifically with tillage, planters, and sprayers.
- Experience in product engineering, including design, product testing, or software testing.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling applications like Creo or ProE.
- Ability to develop performance specifications using simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simscape, or Simulink.
- Programming experience in languages or platforms including MATLAB, C++, Python, Visual Basic, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi.
