    About the role#

    The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) provides academic and social support to refugee youth in New York City. We are seeking two photography interns to document the academy experience for internal and external use, including newsletters, funder reports, and the student yearbook. This role requires on-site work in Manhattan, primarily on Wednesdays and Fridays, with a commitment of 4 to 15 hours per week.

    What you'll do#

    • Photograph academy events, classes, and student and staff portraits.
    • Edit photo rolls and individual images for high-quality output.
    • Organize and deliver images in accessible files sorted by date and event.
    • Collaborate with the Yearbook Coordinator and Graphic Designer to ensure comprehensive documentation.
    • Maintain regular communication with IRC administrators.
    • Commit to photographing at least 50% of priority events, including staff training, the first day of school, weekly community events, Friday field trips, and graduation.

    What you'll need#

    • At least two years of photography experience.
    • Fluency with photo editing software.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • High level of cultural competence and flexibility.
    • Must be based in the US and possess US work authorization.
    • Must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution or have graduated within the last two years.
    • Experience working with diverse populations and youth is desirable.
