About the role#
The Economic Empowerment Intern supports the Workforce Development Team in Elizabeth, New Jersey. This role focuses on helping clients reach self-sufficiency through employment services, career development, and case management. You will work directly with immigrants and refugees to help them navigate the job market and access vocational training.
What you'll do#
- Assist clients with resume writing, cover letters, and interview preparation.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings to set employment or education goals.
- Track client progress, meetings, and data in spreadsheets and case notes.
- Research employment and vocational training opportunities throughout New Jersey.
- Communicate with clients in person and over the telephone.
- Identify additional services and public assistance programs to support client needs.
What you'll need#
- Bilingual ability is required, preferably in Spanish or Haitian Creole. Proficiency in Arabic, Dari, Farsi, or Pashto is also considered.
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but current college students are encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Prior experience in job development or job readiness programming.
- Experience working with refugees or immigrants in a social service setting.
- Ability to work with clients from diverse backgrounds and varying English proficiency levels.
