About the role#
The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Casework Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This unpaid, on-site role is based in Charlottesville, Virginia. You will report to the Casework Supervisor and assist staff in providing direct services to refugee families as they settle into the community.
What you'll do#
- Attend the initial volunteer and intern orientation.
- Transport clients to various appointments, including the Social Security office, Health Department, and Department of Social Services.
- Help new arrivals navigate the Charlottesville public transit system.
- Shop for household items and set up homes for arriving refugee families.
- Assist with administrative tasks, such as completing service applications and creating documentation for case files.
- Advocate for clients during the delivery of services and represent the organization in a professional manner.
- Record your hours and submit monthly timesheets through the online dashboard.
What you'll need#
- You must be located in Charlottesville, Virginia, and be willing to complete field work.
- You must have a car and be willing to use your personal vehicle to transport clients.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and complete tasks within required timeframes.
- Comfort working in a multicultural environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Relevant academic backgrounds include Human Resources, Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or International Relations.
