About the role#
The Casework Intern will support staff in providing direct services to refugee families in Charlottesville. This is an unpaid, full-time internship for Fall 2026. The role requires on-site work and the use of a personal vehicle to assist clients with essential appointments and resettlement tasks.
What you'll do#
- Attend the Volunteer and Intern Orientation.
- Transport clients to appointments at agencies such as the Social Security office, Health Department, and Department of Social Services.
- Orient new refugees to the Charlottesville public transit system and the local community.
- Shop for and set up homes for arriving refugee families.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including completing service applications and maintaining case file documentation.
- Advocate for clients during the delivery of services and represent the organization professionally.
What you'll need#
- Current location in Charlottesville, Virginia.
- A personal vehicle and the willingness to transport clients.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Comfort working in a multicultural environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred majors include Human Resources, Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, or International Relations.
