About the role#
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering is seeking a Structural Design Intern for a 12-week program during the summer of 2027. This full-time, on-site role focuses on transportation projects, specifically bridge design. You will work with a team of engineers to gain experience in structural analysis and design for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls. Interns are paired with experienced staff for guidance and will report to a team lead who provides regular feedback and support.
What you'll do#
- Assist the lead engineer in maintaining organized documentation and archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals.
- Collaborate with engineers to develop designs, details, drawings, and specifications for transportation structures, including various bridge types and box culverts.
- Provide internal quality control for construction drawings, design calculations, and specifications to ensure technical accuracy and constructability.
- Gain exposure to seismic design, load ratings, and the review of construction submittals.
What you'll need#
- Active pursuit of a degree in Civil Engineering, with preference given to academic Juniors and Seniors.
- Strong organizational skills, mathematical aptitude, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in the MS Office suite and strong computer literacy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated research skills and the ability to work effectively both individually and in a team setting.
- A high level of professionalism and integrity.
- Familiarity with MicroStation is preferred.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- A valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Completion of a pre-employment screening.
Location & details#
- This position is located in West Columbia, South Carolina.
- The role is on-site, 5 days per week.
- The internship lasts 12 weeks, beginning in May and ending in August 2027.
