    About the role#

    The Construction Engineer and Inspection Intern position is a 12-week summer program starting in May 2027. You will work on infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, and utilities. This role provides an opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world scenarios while working under the guidance of experienced professionals. You will be paired with a mentor to support your development and receive regular feedback throughout the program.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with monitoring, testing, and verifying client and contractor work.
    • Ensure project plans, materials, traffic control, and safety standards meet requirements.
    • Perform construction observation and conduct field tests for concrete, asphalt, and earthworks.
    • Verify that all procedures and materials comply with current DOT standards.
    • Record daily inspection notes for document management.
    • Assist engineers with spreadsheet tools and handle project drawing documentation.
    • Navigate construction sites and inspect materials or structures, which may involve working in varied weather, at night, or on weekends.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in an accredited Civil Engineering degree program, preferably as a Junior or Senior.
    • A high school diploma is required.
    • A 3.5 GPA or better is desired.
    • Strong computer skills, including the MS Office suite.
    • Proficiency in math calculations and good communication skills.
    • US Citizenship or Green Card status.
    • A current driver’s license with a safe 3-year driving record.
    • Ability to work well both individually and within a team.
    • Demonstrated research skills and a desire to learn.
    • Prior internship experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD are preferred.

    • Location: Staunton, Virginia.
    • Modality: On-site, 5 days per week.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Compensation: This is a paid internship.
    • Physical requirements include the ability to walk, stand, bend, climb stairs or ladders, and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds.
