About the role#
The Traffic Design Intern role provides hands-on experience in civil engineering. You will work with a team to support infrastructure projects, including roadway design and traffic studies. This position includes mentorship from experienced staff to help you develop your skills and explore career paths within the firm.
What you'll do#
- Assist in preparing engineering reports and studies, such as Traffic Impact Analyses and signal warrant analyses.
- Perform traffic volume calculations using Excel.
- Create analysis exhibits and drawings using engineering software.
- Build traffic analysis models using programs like Synchro, HCS, Sidra, and Vistro.
- Develop GIS maps for project reports.
- Gather data through research, site visits, surveys, and field investigations.
- Work with project managers and engineers to meet design deadlines.
- Help prepare technical documents and presentations for clients.
- Review project plans to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Participate in team meetings and project coordination activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering degree program, preferably as a Junior or Senior.
- Coursework in Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or Highway Design.
- Familiarity with tools such as Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Bentley Software.
- Exposure to ArcGIS and MicroStation.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- A valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Previous internship experience is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Ocala, Florida.
- The role follows a rolling term schedule.
- You will report to the office Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
