About the role#
The Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Intern will join our team for a 12-week program during the Summer of 2027. You will support infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, and utilities under the guidance of experienced professionals. This role focuses on applying academic knowledge to real-world scenarios while developing practical skills in construction engineering and inspection.
What you'll do#
- Monitor, test, and ensure conformance of client and contractor work to meet specifications and safety standards.
- Perform construction observation and conduct field tests for concrete, asphalt, and earthworks.
- Verify that all materials, procedures, and safety rules comply with the latest DOT standards.
- Record daily construction inspection notes for document management.
- Assist engineers with the development of spreadsheet tools.
- Copy and scan project-related drawings.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college degree program in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (Junior or Senior preferred).
- 3.5 GPA or better desired.
- US Citizen or Green Card holder.
- Current driver’s license with a safe 3-year driving record.
- Strong computer skills, including the MS Office suite.
- Above-average math calculation skills.
- Ability to work well individually and in a team.
- Organization, planning, research, and resourcefulness skills.
- Prior internship experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: North Charleston, South Carolina.
- Work Modality: On-site, 5 days a week.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Full-time position.
- Paid internship.
- This role involves physical activity, including walking, standing, bending, and climbing. You may occasionally lift up to 80 pounds and work in varied environmental conditions, including noisy settings or active traffic zones. Night and weekend work may be required depending on the project.
