About the role#
SGH is seeking students for a Winter 2027 technical co-op in our Waltham, Massachusetts office. You will work alongside professional engineers to gain hands-on experience by applying your academic knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. This is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations.
- Perform project drafting, structural design, and site inspections.
- Analyze materials and support our petrography staff by developing test protocols.
- Design and construct testing apparatus, perform tests, and analyze the resulting data.
- Collaborate with SGH engineers to conduct reconnaissance on existing structures and monitor construction progress.
- Organize field data and assist with research to support analysis, problem-solving, and repair design.
- Perform analysis using hand calculations and finite element analysis software such as Abaqus or Ansys under the guidance of licensed professionals.
- Help prepare client deliverables, including construction documents, specifications, and written reports.
- Travel and work from heights as required by project needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program (M.S. or PhD) or status as a junior or senior intending to pursue a graduate degree.
- Interest in civil engineering, structural engineering, materials science, or architecture.
- A record of high academic achievement.
- Enthusiasm for hands-on work in a consulting environment and the development of sophisticated engineering products.
- Strong communication skills.
