About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger is hiring students for a structural engineering internship or co-op in Waltham, Massachusetts. This is a full-time, paid position available during the winter, summer, or fall of 2027. You will work alongside professional engineers in the office and at project sites to gain hands-on experience.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and site inspections.
- Contribute to project drafting, structural design, and analysis.
- Analyze materials and support petrography staff.
- Develop test protocols, build testing apparatus, perform tests, and analyze the resulting data.
- Collaborate with engineers to perform reconnaissance on existing structures.
- Organize field data and conduct research to support problem solving and repair design.
- Perform analysis using hand calculations and software under the guidance of licensed professionals.
- Prepare client deliverables, including construction documents, specifications, and reports.
- Note that this work may involve travel and working from heights.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering or Architecture program.
- An interest in structural engineering, materials science, or architectural engineering.
- A record of maintaining high grades in your studies.
- A desire to learn through hands-on work in a consulting environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for developing technical engineering work products.
