About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking students for a Technical Intern position within our Building Technology department. This summer 2027 internship takes place in our Denver, Colorado office. You will work alongside experienced professionals to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. This is a full-time, paid position that requires on-site attendance.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and site inspections.
- Perform project drafting, structural design, and analysis using both hand calculations and software.
- Analyze materials and support our petrography staff.
- Develop test protocols, design and build testing apparatus, perform tests, and analyze the resulting data.
- Collaborate with engineers to conduct reconnaissance on existing structures and monitor construction progress.
- Organize field data and assist with research tasks.
- Help prepare client deliverables, including construction documents, specifications, and written reports.
- Note that work may include travel and working from heights.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- An interest in civil engineering, structural engineering, materials science, or architectural engineering.
- A record of maintaining high grades.
- Enthusiasm for learning through hands-on work in a consulting engineering environment.
- Strong communication skills.

- Compensation: Undergraduate students earn $29.25 to $32.50 per hour, graduate students earn $33.75 to $34.75 per hour, and PhD students earn $36.75 per hour. Interns are eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus.
