About the role#
The Research & Development Intern will join the RE-MASTER CITRUS team at the Citrus Innovation Center in Lakeland, Florida. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside scientists and engineers to build foundational skills in the biology, processing, and analysis of citrus and citrus by-product streams. The position requires a commitment of at least 16 hours per week, with the possibility of up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
What you'll do#
- Support daily lab operations, including managing inventory, preparing samples, and maintaining equipment.
- Perform lab scale distillation experiments.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data and support database management.
- Document experiments, formulations, and results according to R&D best practices.
- Assist with literature reviews and compile findings.
- Support the maintenance of citrus plants, including plant care and field measurements.
- Participate in tasting sessions and provide sensory feedback.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and company policies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college or university, with a preference for students at the sophomore level or higher or early-stage Master's students.
- Pursuing a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong academic record in chemistry, biochemistry, or engineering.
- Successful completion of CHM 2045 and CHM 2045L.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory practices.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Authorization to work in the United States without restrictions.
