About the role#
IBM is hiring for a Software Developer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid internship based in Poughkeepsie, New York. You will work in a hybrid capacity to design and implement technology solutions that address real-world business challenges.
What you'll do#
- Design, test, and deploy technology solutions by working with diverse tools and platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality results.
- Contribute to projects involving emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
- Assist in data modeling to ensure accuracy and efficiency in your designs.
- Participate in code reviews and maintain software development best practices.
- Engage in continuous learning to stay current with industry trends and IBM standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Proficiency in at least one contemporary programming language such as Python, Java, or C++.
- Experience building and debugging software using AI concepts like prompt engineering, API integration, and AI-assisted development tools.
- Familiarity with agentic software, multi-model workflow orchestration, function calling, stateful loops, error handling, and RAG patterns.
- Solid understanding of data modeling principles, agile methodologies, and enterprise IT operations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
