About the role#
IBM Quantum builds computing systems, software, and cloud services. This internship role focuses on shaping the user experience for researchers and developers who use quantum computing. You will work alongside research and product teams to refine how users interact with our quantum services.
What you'll do#
- Identify unmet needs of customers, including computational chemists and algorithm developers.
- Use quantitative analysis and qualitative research to scope the impact of specific problems.
- Recommend features for the product roadmap based on team success criteria.
- Balance customer value against technical constraints.
- Iterate on designs like APIs, SDK interfaces, and dashboards with Design, Engineering, and Quantum Researchers.
- Collaborate with teams such as Product Marketing and Developer Relations to define release criteria.
- Build a working knowledge of the quantum application stack, including running circuits and error mitigation.
What you'll need#
- Bachelors or higher degree in a STEM field, such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, or Data Science.
- Experience collecting and synthesizing user feedback.
- Strong analytical skills to navigate business questions and deliver insights.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional environment with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous internship or work experience in product management, design, software engineering, consulting, or at a startup.
- Evidence of building and launching a project for real users.
- Technical fluency in computer science, engineering, or data science, including comfort discussing APIs and system constraints.
- Proficiency in SQL or Python for data analysis.
- Interest in physics, quantum computing, and emerging technologies.

- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based on-site in Yorktown Heights, New York.
