About the role#
As a Software Developer Intern in the Infrastructure department, you will design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions that power IBM products. You will work on hybrid cloud, storage, data protection, automation, security, and systems management offerings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure and reliable software that helps clients manage their IT environments.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software using modern engineering practices.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis to deployment.
- Collaborate with product management, architects, quality assurance, and operations teams.
- Build scalable, secure, and performant applications, services, APIs, and backend components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, performance bottlenecks, and customer issues.
- Contribute to architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, test plans, and operational procedures.
- Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Support agile processes by participating in sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, C++, or JavaScript.
- Understanding of software design principles, object-oriented programming, and data structures.
- Experience developing REST APIs, microservices, or distributed systems.
- Knowledge of Git, Linux/Unix environments, and command-line tools.
- Understanding of software testing, debugging, and performance analysis.
- Familiarity with relational or NoSQL databases.
- Knowledge of cloud computing, containerization, and CI/CD practices.
- Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or cloud-native architectures.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud platforms, storage, backup, disaster recovery, or cybersecurity.
- Knowledge of AI/ML, automation frameworks, or agentic AI solutions.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, and SRE practices.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps, security best practices, and IBM technologies like Red Hat OpenShift or IBM Cloud.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
