About the role#
IBM Quantum operates advanced computing systems through IBM Cloud. As these systems scale, protecting the underlying infrastructure is a priority. This internship focuses on two main areas: strengthening the compliance posture of our IBM Cloud accounts and improving the security tools used by our team.
What you'll do#
- Assess IBM Cloud account configurations against industry and internal compliance frameworks.
- Identify and document gaps in account security.
- Build and enhance automated tools, such as scripts and dashboards, to monitor compliance and flag issues.
- Assist in the remediation of security findings by working with cloud and infrastructure engineering teams.
- Refine existing security workflows to reduce manual tasks.
- Create documentation for security controls, compliance evidence, and tooling runbooks.
- Collaborate with IBM Security and Quantum engineering to evaluate new security tools.
- Present your findings and recommendations to the team.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or a related technical field.
- Foundational knowledge of cloud security, including IAM, encryption, network security, and logging.
- Working knowledge of at least one scripting or programming language like Python, Go, or Bash.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform or CI/CD security tooling.
- Exposure to compliance frameworks including NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, or CIS Benchmarks.
- Familiarity with security scanning, SIEM, or cloud security posture management tools.
- Coursework or project experience involving quantum computing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
