About the role#
IBM Quantum is looking for students to help develop a large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer. You will work on the pulse-level quantum compiler that targets a distributed, real-time microwave control system for superconducting quantum computers. This role focuses on supporting our next-generation logical qubit control system.
What you'll do#
- Extend and improve the pulse-level quantum compiler.
- Design and implement compiler passes and backend targets for a distributed, hard-real-time microwave control system.
- Create software and automation tools to test and validate compiler correctness and real-time performance.
- Work with control systems, FPGA, and runtime development teams to integrate compiler output with hardware.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Rust and Python.
- Experience with Git, Linux, and command-line environments.
- Background in compiler design, robotics, real-time control systems, or microwave/RF systems.
- Familiarity with quantum computing concepts, pulse-level compilation, or hardware-aware compilation.
- Understanding of hard-real-time systems, embedded control loops, or superconducting qubit control hardware.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2027
- Modality: On-site
- Employment: Full-time internship
- Compensation: Paid position
