About the role#
IBM Quantum is looking for a software developer intern to join our engineering team. You will work with researchers and developers to build tools that power the IBM Quantum platform. This role involves contributing to applications and services that support quantum computing workloads. You will gain hands-on experience with engineering challenges while learning modern software development practices.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, test, and deliver software for the IBM Quantum platform.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and features to deliver production-quality code.
- Collaborate with developers and cross-functional stakeholders to implement solutions.
- Participate in technical discussions to understand project requirements.
- Engage in the full software development lifecycle, including coding, debugging, and documentation.
- Contribute across the software stack, including backend services, APIs, databases, and cloud-native applications.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience developing software through coursework, internships, research, personal projects, or hackathons.
- Knowledge of software engineering fundamentals like data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and testing.
- Familiarity with application development concepts such as APIs, SQL databases, version control, and modern workflows.
- Experience with backend systems, web applications, or databases.
- Familiarity with frontend development and web frameworks.
- Exposure to cloud computing, distributed systems, or containerized applications.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- An interest in quantum computing, scientific computing, AI, or emerging technologies.
