About the role#
The Electronic Design Automation (EDA) team develops software and Agentic AI solutions to design and verify IBM processors and computing systems. As an intern, you will work on projects spanning logic design, functional verification, synthesis, routing, and timing analysis. You will join a team focused on the intersection of software engineering, AI, and semiconductor development.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with experienced engineers to solve problems in software, AI, and chip design.
- Gain exposure to Agentic AI and machine learning techniques applied to chip design workflows, such as synthesis and place-and-route automation.
- Contribute to the development of software tools that support logic design, functional verification, timing analysis, and physical design.
- Create algorithms and software solutions to improve design quality and accelerate chip development.
- Partner with teams across IBM zSystems, Power Systems, Storage, and Quantum Computing to address real-world technical challenges.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with object-oriented programming languages like C++, Java, or Rust.
- Exposure to Python or other scripting languages.
- Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and digital logic design.
- Coursework or exposure to AI or Agent Engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent communication abilities.
- Knowledge of computer architecture, microarchitecture, and digital or VLSI design concepts.
- Familiarity with logic design, functional verification, synthesis, place-and-route, or timing analysis.
- Exposure to GenAI, Agentic AI systems, ML frameworks, or AI-assisted software development.
- Experience with Linux development environments, software engineering practices, testing methodologies, and version control systems.
