About the role#
IBM is seeking Hardware Developer Interns for the Summer 2027 term. You will join our infrastructure and technology team to help develop, test, and support the hardware, firmware, and semiconductors that power IBM systems. This is a full-time, paid internship based in Poughkeepsie, New York.
What you'll do#
- Participate in logic (RTL) design, verification, physical design, and analog/IO design.
- Engage in electronic design automation and performance modeling.
- Work on signal and power integrity analysis.
- Assist with microelectronics packaging and materials characterization.
- Support mechanical design, thermal testing, and technology integration.
- Contribute to circuit design, printed circuit board layout, and voltage regulation.
- Help with processor and system validation, characterization, and test failure analysis.
- Provide support for customer and field engineering.
- Assist with product quality, assurance, and analytics.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A focus on growth, teamwork, and outcomes.
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware and architecture, including FPGAs, RISC-V, ARM, or MIPS.
- Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Python, or Java.
- Familiarity with hardware description languages like VHDL or Verilog, and circuit simulation tools like SPICE.
- At least three months of prior experience in hardware design or manufacturing is preferred.
