About the role#
As a Hardware Developer Intern, you will work on the systems that drive the quantum revolution and the AI era. You will join a team of engineering professionals who pioneer innovations for microprocessors and hardware used in IBM infrastructure, including zSystems, Power Systems, Storage, and Quantum Systems. You will develop, test, and support the hardware, firmware, and semiconductors that make up our products.
What you'll do#
- Participate in logic (RTL) design, verification, physical design, and analog/IO design.
- Work on signal integrity, power integrity, and analysis.
- Engage in microelectronics packaging, materials analysis, and mechanical design.
- Handle circuit design, electrical design, and printed circuit board layout.
- Perform thermal design, testing, voltage regulation, and power delivery.
- Conduct performance modeling, system validation, and component characterization.
- Support firmware architecture, development, and test failure analysis.
- Assist with product quality, assurance, and analytics.
- Provide customer and field engineering support.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Expertise in microprocessor or ASIC design skills, including VHDL, Verilog, RTL, SPICE, TCL, UVM, verification, and testing.
- Coursework in VLSI Design, Microprocessors, Computer Architecture, and Signal Integrity.
- Proficiency in programming languages like C or C++, Git, Linux, and debuggers.
- Scripting experience in Python, APDL, TCL, Bash, Perl, or Java.
- Familiarity with hardware architectures such as VLSI, FPGA, MIPS, RISC-V, Arm, x86, Arduino, or Quantum systems.
- Proficiency in CAD tools and 3D modeling.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Three months of experience in hardware design or manufacturing is preferred.
