About the role#
As a Firmware Developer Intern, you will work on firmware across various computing systems, ranging from central computing complexes to management consoles, power supplies, and I/O adapters. You will join teams that focus on the full development cycle, including design, code implementation, unit and functional testing, simulation, and real hardware integration.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement code for hardware management console web interfaces and mobile apps.
- Develop software for cryptographic processors and support I/O adapters for networking and storage.
- Work on server virtualization and Parallel Sysplex environments to help mainframes communicate as a single entity.
- Implement complex z/Architecture instructions, concurrent functions, and recovery functions.
- Create control systems for IBM Quantum room temperature electronics.
- Communicate with hardware components using protocols such as PCIe.
- Apply agile methodologies throughout the development process.
What you'll need#
- Fundamental education in software design or testing with a focus on Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
- Demonstrated software design skills and experience working in a team environment.
- Proficiency in one or more languages such as C, C++, Java, Assembly, or PL/X.
- Scripting knowledge in languages like Python, JavaScript, Perl, or Bash.
- Understanding of front-end, back-end, or embedded systems.
- Ability to perform software performance analysis, debugging, and testing.
- Familiarity with tools such as Git, GitHub, or IntelliJ.
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux kernel functionality, LAN drivers, FPGA, or web and mobile application development.
- Strong communication skills.
