About the role#
IBM is looking for a Back End Developer Intern to join the IBM Z team in Tucson. You will contribute to enterprise software development projects while working alongside experienced engineers. This role focuses on building and maintaining backend systems that support z/OS applications for large organizations.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain backend systems for z/OS applications.
- Participate in Agile development cycles including design, coding, testing, and support.
- Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and data integrations.
- Work with client-server architectures, networking protocols, and databases.
- Design and code server applications that are reusable and scalable.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, and product managers through code reviews and testing.
- Support the deployment and monitoring of applications in cloud and hybrid environments.
- Apply software development best practices, Cloud DevOps methodologies, and continuous delivery.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of C or one of the following: C++, Java, Golang, Python, Ruby, Perl, or SQL.
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
- Basic understanding of APIs, databases, and version control systems.
- Coursework or experience with assembly language or systems-level programming in C or C++.
- Experience with scripting languages for automation or system interaction.
- Exposure to cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, or containerization tools.
- Familiarity with JSON, Web Services, or virtualization concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a team.
