About the role#
The Commercial Construction Intern joins the HITT Futures Program for a 10-week, paid, immersive experience. This role is designed to provide hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional development for students interested in pursuing careers as project managers or superintendents.
What you'll do#
- Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
- Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
- Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Assist in the preparation of bid packages, including soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
- Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, preparing cost estimates, and attending team meetings and client walkthroughs.
- Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams on project layout, construction drawing, trade coordination, site condition verification, safety, and quality control inspections.
- Participate in weekly training, educational classes, and networking events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Architecture, Environmental Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for the full 10-week program.
- Proficiency or ability to learn software systems including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Previous industry internship, volunteer, or work experience is a plus.
